Re: Thoughts From My 1st Visit to China (Fuzhou)

Hi Tom, you are probably witnessing a biggest human population movement in history: Chinese government let billion of farmers move into cities, to free mussel and land for new technologies. As I read, it is just the beginning, the program is for 10 years from now. You are right about Fuzhou, a city ...

Re: Bentall Centre sold to a Chinese insurance company

Thompson, Point Grey home sells for 9 million. 11 offers all cash, no subjects, all Chinese buyers. None are Canadians and the money is laundered. Justify this all you want but this is what you are supporting & it will screw over future generations or real Canadians. I saw a comment in on...

Re: Bentall Centre sold to a Chinese insurance company

Thompson, Vacation properties are allowed here but the property tax rate should be much higher than for Canadian citizens. As for the astronaut families well their wife & kids live here so the entire family is deemed to be Canadian residents for tax purposes. Just so you know I am one of those peop...

Re: Bentall Centre sold to a Chinese insurance company

our generous social programs What are those generous programs? I can not recall any one of them. A new comer once asked me the same question, I tried very hard but failed to answer it. :P Can't blame me, What I know is that rental allowance of $375 in welfare hasn't been changed for years, probably...

Re: Should the government intervene?

Did they buy it with money that has been taxed in Canada? Did they earn the money in Canada? Do they plan to live in said house? Do they plan to stay long term? Do they spend most of their earnings here? Sounds like the answer to above questions is "yes." What is wrong if the answer is "no"? I thou...

Re: Bentall Centre sold to a Chinese insurance company

Anyway, governments are actually smarter than what we want to believe. Those rich foreigners are, or will be taxed to death here in Canada, one way or another....maybe not through the income tax, but we have all kind of taxes available for them, as long as they, wife or kids, spend their money to bu...

Re: Bentall Centre sold to a Chinese insurance company

Whattodo, you are one way thinking, those are "other people's money", have nothing to do with you or Canada. We all know money can buy freedom. Rich foreigners may have one house in Canada, one house in London, one in Paris, and three in China, so, they may or may not have to be Canadian residences,...

Re: 70% of MetroVan houses sold went to mainland china buyer

Give this 5 more years & there will be no more white people in West Van either. i don't see anything wrong with this. those "white" people that sold their houses i'm sure are happy. It's caucasian people, "white" is a fabricated charicature. Kind of like over exaggerated movie role based on false h...

Re: Competition keeps home sellers in the Driver Seat

What is anti Canadian is having Canadian citizens unable to buy homes in their own country. Our home buying rules favour foreigners over Canadians. In the USA the laws favour local citizens. Property taxes are higher for foreigners & the IRS can confiscate your house if it was bought the proceeds o...

Re: Competition keeps home sellers in the Driver Seat

Immigrant buyers are different than non-resident buyers! I like your 2 million idea though. Or maybe they can only buy properties in West Van & Richmond. That's it ... nowhere else. very smart idea, whattodo, but very soon or late you will change your name back to " what to do"? "Eh? why ...

Re: Competition keeps home sellers in the Driver Seat

Prices have gone so far out of whack, what type of correction is required to bring them back to "normal"? 50%? 60%? More? According to Geyser's "long term historical average", you need a 25% correction first, then 50% correction fllows, then another 50% correction again, all three corrections toget...

Re: Competition keeps home sellers in the Driver Seat

If you bought in 1986 and sold in 2012, after closing costs you would have lost money. Similarly, if you had bought in 2006, you'd still be looking at big losses almost a decade later. Really? Say I bought a house at 1m, 25% down, interest only mortgage (for simplicity), after 20 years house was so...
