Re: Should the government intervene?

if this tax cools off the mania, it could lead to the market becoming "normal". Anyways, isn't everyone telling us that the prices are high due to lack of supply That's a pretty big IF I doubt its going to magically make the market "normal" again. Introducing uncertainty is never a good approach to...

Re: Should the government intervene?

Thanks Harahomes for your comments. Aside from the other troll comments your comments are good and show the impact is already starting. There are unintended conseuences and this very well could hurt a lot more locals then it will help. How so? The only people that this will hurt are those that thou...

Re: Should the government intervene?

This doesn't help buyers but it does help politicians pay raise and pensions Doesn't help foreign buyers... but who cares about them anyways. not me. It doesn't help the overall market or economy and is going to create a whole bunch of uncertainty. I bet this is going to blow up in the Li...

Re: BC Hydro not shutting off power. Saying I own $862.93

meanwhile, BC Hydro's costs were much higher than this bill with the lawyer, employee and all of the customer service calls. I wonder if they cut the bill in half would you have paid it? Seems like a pretty high bill for a vacant property as well, but on the other hand why didn't your landlord notic...

Re: The real estate technique fuelling Vancouver's housing m

hmm sounds like we need to send in the Civil Forfeiture office to confiscate all these homes as proceeds of crime. Funny how Gregor and his band of idiots are claiming a flippers tax is what is needed, while Christy claims nothing should be done, if only Justin would clamp down on existing tax laws ...

Re: The real estate technique fuelling Vancouver's housing m

It isn't against the law to assign a contract Not paying taxes on the assignment is though. When people move to Canada, they should learn the laws. Or is that too racist for you? The article is a bit misleading in saying the transaction is tax-free. They realtor would need to pay taxes on his incom...

Re: Predictions for 2016

I understand your reasoning. My concern is focussed primarily on recent marginal buyers who are financially stretched and already depend on rental income in order to meet even their current "emergency low interest" mortgage rate. As interest rates and Property Taxes rise, those folks could be force...

Yes, the behind the scenes opportunities would be the problem. Let's hope more of them get nailed by CRA.
Lets hope so!

Re: Predictions for 2016

Already the strain is showing on the Eastside, as demonstrated by the extraordinary number of "mortgage helper" suites. I don't think this is true at all Geyser...Eastside mortgage helper suites have been extraordinarily high for the last 10-20 years. Also I have negative vacancy in my eastside sui...

Re: New to Real Estate (Vancouver) - Need Strategic Advice

So much wisdom here. Easy to forget that there are economic cycles. How much did house prices drop in the last recession? :!: Just added: Here's a reason why USA RE suddenly became more attractive. Re: Sale price understated on homes being sold

so if the prices is lower so be it. isn't a reason to get hyper Futureporscheowner wasn't talking about an actual low sales price, he was talking about tax fraud. Anybody getting caught doing that will have good reason to get hyper. I continue to believe it would not be easy to find dishonest lawye...

The Golden Ticket?

Just got a letter from a large company stating that the City of Vancouver is looking at redeveloping my street and they want to discuss land assembly for my property. On one hand this sounds great, especially the part about buying at above market value. On the other hand, I have great tenants, zero ...
