Hell, an awful lot of NY'ers live outside of their state.

 if you live outside NY you're no longer considered a NYer. Just like you are no longer considered a Vancouverite after your move to hogtown.

Perhaps we can trade our unhapy young people for theirs???

http://gothamist.com/2011/05/13/a_third ... want_t.php

According to the poll (which surveyed 941 adults, 43 percent of whom live in NYC), 26 percent of adults in New York State plan to move someplace else in the next five years while 67 percent say they will stay (another six percent are unsure). Things get more interesting when they talked to residents under 30. Of those New Yorkers, 36 percent say they want to leave the state. 60 percent, however, say they will remain in the Empire State (and three percent are unsure).

Broken down by region the numbers are slightly different. Here in New York City, for instance, the number of residents looking to leave is just 24 percent versus 33 percent in the suburbs and 26 percent upstate.

Why the interest in leaving? “New Yorkers are feeling the financial squeeze on the home front. Right now, many young people do not see their future in New York State,” explained Dr. Lee M. Miringoff, Director of The Marist College Institute for Public Opinion. “Unchecked, this threatens to drain the state of the next generation.”

You obviously don't know anyone who grew up in New York... anyone "from" New York considers themselves a New Yorker, no matter where they live. It's an attitude. Likewise, living in New York doesn't make you a New Yorker.

If you don't want to see live theatre, and don't like to work in the financial industry, what does New York have that British Columbia does not?

Ok...that is a very ironic statement considering the prevailing attitude in the city of Vancouver.

Better???

New York obviously has better live theatre, and culture and some other fun stuff, and many jobs in the financial industory,

but if you want to enjoy your life and don't like seeing the opera, why would you move there when you could stay here?

ah yes, tdma800, good point. After all, New York is just "Vancouver with live theatre and some jobs in finance"...

Not sure what you're talking about.

New york has live theatre, and possibly more jobs in the field you want to work,

but its an expensive place to live in , and, besides working, what else can you do there? any recreational opportunities that dont' involve going to restaurants or the theatre?

tdma800, you're right. There is absolutely nothing to do in New York City except eat at restaurants and go to live theatre. Just as well you haven't wasted your money going to this giant overpriced east coast cafeteria...
