Oh, In RE, people usually keep the good stories for friends, but share the sad stories with others ... to make others feel better. :)

Piano is exceptional.

(but in stock market, just the opposite. People keep the bad news for themselves but shared good stories with others, including wife.)

Brilliant. Very astute Thompson.
And do you know your observation is so true?
Real estate investing is the way the S.A.V.V.Y. accumilate wealth. Yes there are the gambling flippers, but people who are in it for the long run are not in it for the gambling "rush". Now the stock market is a different story. They are mainly gamblers who are in denial. They think they are investing, but all they are doing is feeding their gambling habit.....

Hence, the real estate investor will actually have some sort of wealth at the end of it all, whereas the stock investor will be busted and be lucky to still have their memories.

so true Johnny. But funny how most bears accuse real estate buyers here of "speculating" when most have their hands in the stock market, gold, etc.

most bears think they "talk turkey" - but all I hear coming out of their mouths is chicken shit.
the cure for higher prices is moving to a destination with lower prices

I have... this market was too good not to sell into, particularly after coming through such troubling times. I sold all three of my downtown investment properties over the past three months. I am holding onto one small older rental unit that breaks even with a good 5-year rate on it. Whether this was the right move or not for the market remains to be seen, but it was the right move for me and my family. We no longer have a mortgage on our PR which we can live quite comfortably in for many years to come. I am saving for a future downpayment, but waiting for a buyer's market before re-entry.

From what I understand a greater portion of the action this time around has been investors selling to owner occupied. Whether that's bullish or bearish is not immediately clear, a case certainly could be made both ways.

OK, so stories from pianoexcellence and MultipleOffer have now been archived, thanks to each of you, they are illustrative anecdotes. -
People Making Money From RE – “Hooray for Real Estate!” & “I sold all three of my downtown investment properties over the past three months.”

These are, however, stories from people who have recently sold RE, and that would imply that they have seen the market as a selling opportunity.
How about some of you adding first or second person anecdotes about accumulating and holding RE? About wealth growing in RE?

Well, they're archived here first - you are giving full attribution with links and copyright notice, eh VREAA?

rob
Have you checked the site?
All archives are linked to source.

The point of VREAA is that it is almost nothing but personal stories. It's a list of anecdotes.
Although these stories are 'archived' wherever they first appear, try searching RE Talks for 'anecdotes'.
Exactly, you won't get very far. Essentially all these stories are lost in sites like these, like needles in haystacks.

Anyway, if rob (or any significant group of people here) consider VREAA some kind of theft, say the word and vreaa will 'cease and desist'.
Also, note that VREAA has no ads; it is not a commercial site.

Regardless, please still send me anecdotes at

I for the record, think VREAA is doing something cool.

It must take up a lot of VREAA's time though, so thanks for it.

I think it is slanted toward the bear view though, and may be more valuable if other strong bull viewpoints are portrayed too.

Thx Piano... unlike you i held onto my principal residence and an investment property, so I still have some exposure to the market, which is good if it goes up, and not a bother at all if the market falls. Rental cashflows and PR is paid off, with $ in the bank to pay off the rental property mortgage if I ever needed to. A crash would just be seen as a buying opportunity for me.
